Haus of Dizzy has collaborated with Kiya Watt to bring you a limited edition range of art for your ears.

Kiya is a Menang Gnudju Noongar artist located in Albany WA. She has been painting for around 2 years now and was involved in a landmark moment on Australian television. She is one of the co-creators of the new Kiya doll that features on ABC’s playschool. Besides being known for the Kiya doll, Kiya also does murals, corporate commissions, fabric designs and runs cultural workshops around Australia. Kiya uses her art to connect back to her culture and preserve her families stories.

YELLOW MIRROR Dec-jan (Beruc-Birak)

Birak is the first summer. It is not as hot as Birak so I’ve used the colour yellow to represent the warmth starting to become present. This time of the year is when the snakes would become present and stop hibernating. I have painted the snakes journey. The snake is loving the sun and the three circles represent warmer weather bringing the snakes out.

RED MIRROR Feb-March ( meertilluc-bunuru)

Bunuru is the second summer and the hottest season of the year I used the red colours to depict this and the circle represents the sun. The lines coming from the sun are the rays.

GREEN MIRROR April-May (pourner-Djeran)

Djeran is the season of adulthood where the nights become cool and the rain starts to fall. Food that we ate in this season included the yakans which is the long neck turtles which is what I have drawn. They are swimming the circles in the middle are waterholes.

BLUE MIRROR June-July (Mawker-Makuru)

Makuru is the season of fertility the wettest season of the year. I have drawn circles with U shaped symbols sitting around them, the U shaped symbols are people sitting and all of them together represent a gathering. I’ve used blues to show the rain fall and also waterholes.

The lines and blue dots also represent rivers which would become full because of the amount of rain fall.

PURPLE MIRROR Aug-Sep (meerningal-Djilba)

Djila is the season of conception and when the flowers would start to blossom. The circles seen present in this painting depict the flowers opening and blossoming and the berries as well. The lines connecting them are the roots.

ORANGE MIRROR Oct-Nov (maungernan-Kambarang)

Wildflowers are blooming and the weather is warming up for birak season. During this season the nuytsia (Australian Christmas tree) starts to bloom the flowers are a beautiful bright orange.
